LOU VAN'T RIET

BELGIUM

  • Instagram

Lou van 't Riet grew up in Brussels where she studied design and architecture before moving to New York. Enthralled by the city, she continued to live there until 2017, working at the Chamber Gallery and for the multidisciplinary artist Katie Stout.

During these years, her thinking turned to the relationship between the public and the works of art.

She has noticed a distance between the viewer and the work. Through her creations Lou tries to break the 'Do not touch' rule and to create works where the viewer has to invest himself. Her concept is a sensory approach that allows us to experience art on another level, as it challenges the rules that we traditionally observe.

The 'Triptychs', which the viewer is invited to manipulate this time, were born from this desire.

Opening or closing one or both sides of the work reveals totally different combinations thanks to the shapes and colours that appear or disappear. Partially or completely open, we discover multiple compositions, inviting contemplation.
